When Brooke's cousin announced last year that her upcoming wedding would be in Gettysburg, PA, Brooke and I were thrilled. Not only would we be able to go to her wedding, but it would allow us to go to Sesame Place with Hunter before making our way to the Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg, PA. We woke up bright and early on a Wednesday and made the four hour drive to Sesame Place. We spent the remainder of the day riding every ride, sometimes twice, and enjoying the water park and lazy river. We enjoyed some pizza and wings for dinner in our hotel room a few miles down the road and got a good night's sleep for more theme park shenanigans the next day. On Thursday we woke up and headed right over to the park where Brooke had reserved us three seats at the character breakfast. Hunter still didn't really enjoy the live-action characters - who can blame him, they were close to 7' tall - and the food was horrific, even for a breakfast buffet, but it still ranks up there with one of the most memorable breakfasts of my life. We rode all of the same rides all over again on Thursday, and I still don't know who enjoyed the park more, Hunter or Brooke and I. This time at Sesame Place was the first family vacation for the three of us. We've traveled extensively in the past, but it always included Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and cousins. This time it was just us, and it was incredible. We arrived in Gettysburg a little after lunch, and after we checked into the hotel and dropped our bags we did what Brooke and I always do when we first get to a new town: eat. We spent the remainder of the day browsing downtown Gettysburg and poking in and out of the various shops.
The majority of Brooke's family got to Gettysburg on Friday morning. Byronn, Ali, and Olivia joined the three of us to take a bus tour of the famous battlefields, and luckily for us the weather held off until the last few minutes of the tour. We met up with the remaining members of her family for dinner and a few drinks before retiring to our rooms. Brooke's cousin Kristen got married on Saturday, and the reception was held at The Gettysburg Hotel right on the main square in downtown. It was a terrific event and we wish Kristen and Patrick many years of wedded bliss. Everyone woke up and enjoyed the quite delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel on Sunday before departing at various times. We had an eight hour drive home, so we left around 11am. We ate lunch at the PA/NJ/NY border before finishing the remaining three-plus hours home. It was a terrific five days enjoyed in two very different locations. Brooke and I certainly enjoyed the history of Gettysburg, but it was our two days at Sesame Place on our first family vacation with our two-year-old son that really made this trip special. The pictures and videos will help us never forget seeing our little toddler running from ride to ride, yet I still swear to this day that we had the most fun.
